I'm alive!

Just in case anyone was wondering, I am alive and back from Winter Park. We had a great time, aside from spending a week in a red state sleeping on a hide-a-bed at 9000 feet. Wow, that doesn't make it sound like fun. But it really was! Winter Park's town is a trip and the ski resort itself is really cool because there's two sides of the mountain and they're both really interesting. The Mary Jane side is largely ungroomed, which means lots of bump skiing and access to the chutes up above. Knee to thigh deep powder=yummy.

Steamboat was awesome too, as it had snowed 8 inches before we got there and again, skied the chutes and bumps. Colorado is big on bumps, which is something we just don't do here in the PNW. Argh.

Speedy's birthday was nice and we got her this great caramel cake that she loved. Plus, I took her out to the pub with her friends and got a great picture of she and I doing Irish Car Bombs. Gotta love that.

We caught an earlier flight out of CO on Wednesday, so that we got home at a decent hour, which rocked. I made about a gazillion phone calls and collapsed. Dinner last night was at Ruth's Chris for Dad's best friend's 60th birthday, so that didn't suck at all. I love getting an amazing dinner for free.

Wish me luck--I'm supposed to hang out with Headfirst tonight. Yikes.

Happy Bloggy Birthday

I forgot to mark this, but my blog hit it's first birthday this month. I started this a year ago pretty much in a fit of pique, but now it's so much more fun to randomly put stuff on there and let my friends see it and keep up with me.

I hope that things get more interesting as the year goes on and the blog evolves with me. I love that the cast of characters keeps growing and changing. I love that my friends sometimes refer to themselves by their blog names. I love that my friends do check in on me from time to time to catch up and perhaps even get some ammo for mockery of either me or someone else. It's always hilarious.

I'm going to try and post or at least check email from Winter Park, but it's pretty doubtful. It's probably only going to happen if I find me some wifi and steal Dad's laptop. Either way, I hope everyone has a safe, sweet week and wish my blog a happy birthday!

Roommates...God Bless them.

I had a lovely VD yesterday and managed to escape completely unscathed from the hordes of couples, swarms of flowers and masses of PDAs going around the city last night. Whee! Instead, I volunteered and then went to dinner with a very old friend and a very new friend, went to martinis with said friends and was joined by Joy and had some great conversations. It was very, very nice.

I also discovered this great new blog, called I Hate My Flatmate. It only cracks me up right now because I am mildly irritated by the fact that the boy Steamboat's been bringing home lately was apparently born in a barn. I've actually never seen the boy, but when I get ready for work in the morning, I've walked into the bathroom three different times now to see the toilet seat up and evidence that someone doesn't know where the flush handle is. Now, I appreciate that he doesn't want to wake anyone up, but I will sleep through that and the other option's grossed me out three times now. I nearly wrote a nasty note on the white board this morning and thought better of it. However, I'm still not sure how to proceed. Argh. Perhaps I'll write a note to her explaining that she needs to potty train her boy. Good thing I'm leaving town for a week!

VD Vacation

I'm off to the WP on Wednesday morning, and not a moment too soon. I had a really fun, but really weird weekend that took a lot out of me and I'm starting to really regret giving up coffee for Lent. Go me with the great ideas.

Either way, Friday night was Headfirst's surprise birthday party, so after I celebrated Dad's birthday with he and Mom, I picked up WRX and headed over to the Doug Fir for the Thermals show, where we were meeting the whole crew. It ended up being a ton of fun, the bands all rocked and there was much Red Bull and vodka being drank. At some point in the evening, the birthday boy and I decided it would be a great idea to make out, much to the chagrin of Roche, who had organized the whole party. The only reason I knew about the party to begin with was because Chief LHV had told me. Either way, we all had fun, I think.

Saturday was spent being very late for work at the mountain because I was still taking care of WRX. Who I got to blame for my tardiness. Hee!

Saturday night was another birthday celebration at Eeyore's place, which we got to late since we didn't even leave ski school until 9:00 pm. It was a lot of fun, though. Bientot, YM and I were late getting to ski school on Sunday and then had to park at HRM, which irritated all three of us. Interestingly, just as we were walking to the bus, who pulled into the lot? Headfirst, Roche and Chief LHV. Of course. Who yelled hello as we went over to the bus. Chief LHV rode the bus with us and we chatted about his messed-up knee. I was almost late for lineup, as I was skiing Star with everyone and there were approximately 10 million racers. Ooops. After lineup, I met up with Headfirst, Roche and Chief, and then ran inside to change my coat and ski. I got Marshall and we managed to spend the entire day essentially skiing with Headfirst and Roche, since Chief's knee was done. Which wasn't weird at all. Really. Yeah, I wouldn't believe me either. It was bizarre. Fun, but bizarre. I could have kicked Roche in the shins a few times for being a complete ass, but that wouldn't be anything new, now would it? We did do laps on Upper Elevator and Outer Limits because the snow was beautiful and we had a blast. Well, that or this season has given us all Stockholm Syndrome and we're learning to love it when it sucks less than usual.

After I got home, I chilled for a while and went out for a beer with Headfirst, which was kind of pointless as we were both exhausted and had just spent the day together anyway. Plus, the conversation was a little like: Elephant? Does anyone else see the elephant in the middle of the room that we are trying to ignore? No? Just me? Thanks. I am insane. Great. On the other hand, Marshall was totally right. Headfirst totally reminds me of Eeyore.

Is it Wednesday yet? Good thing the girls are going our for martinis to celebrate "Single Women's Awareness Day" or whatever YM called it.

Quote of the Day: "I think we've reached our limit/I think we're getting finished/but I'm never on/I'm always wrong/I can always/trust the opposite." Time to Lose, The Thermals.

Sleepytime

18 inches of fresh, new snow over the weekend shorted out our surfing plans this weekend and waking up sick yesterday shorted out my ability to ski, so that wasn't the greatest feeling. I slept on the couch in ski school for an hour while Marshall and Bientot skied their hearts out, making laps on Star. All I care about is that I'm healthy for when we go visit Speedy in the WP.

Which reminds me. I need to get some damned sleep this week.

Did a lot of research on Australia this week and it's looking good. If I can get the budget to match, I'll be golden. Keep your fingers crossed!!
